The Dawning of an UnSpun Thread
(AKA "Mother")
About
As Molly relives each memory, accompanied by a stunning, very personal soundtrack, she is propelled through time from 1984 to the present day, from childhood to motherhood and ultimately to the revelations of everything she’s been trying so hard to forget. With the courage only a mother knows, she recalls her incredible story - a twisting, rollercoaster of love and loss. From Frank's patch of baldness to Lydia's patch of happiness and the silently spoken words of a broken promise, Molly recalls a lifetime of memories before coming face to face with the one thing she dreads the most - the truth.
The Dawning of an UnSpun Thread is a heartwarming and heartbreaking, original, fast-paced and unsettling one-woman drama that unfolds in to breathtaking finale. Drawing on his experiences of working in mental health services and with those who've suffered trauma and detachment, writer and director David Martin creates characters who brim with disaffection and turmoil. Molly is no exception.
Room62 Productions (formally Softsod) has been pursuing her story for seven years. It is the third part of a trilogy. A compelling tale which started with Fragile Man (EdFringe 2017 ~ Pick of the Fringe), developed through UnSpoken (EdFringe 2018) and now seeks final resolution in The Dawning of an UnSpun Thread. Yet it stands alone - 75 minutes of extremely satisfying and often challenging theatre.
The play has already received outstanding press and public reviews from preview performances in Bristol (June 2023) and during a month long run at EdFringe 2024, where audiences gave amazing feedback and told us “this has to be seen by many more people." As a result it is now set to tour the UK in 2025. Watch this space.
